Back to College!

October 20, 2009

Well, it was great fun at Coimbatore – enjoyed my Diwali holidays, but as good things must come to an end, I boarded my train back to VIT.  College starts tomorrow, and I’m back to my old routine.   I have no idea what they’ll teach, as 90% of the class would be absent.   Even now, only about 100 students have checked back into the hostel.   I guess, its back to the old life, and I am eagerly waiting for the next holidays…

Diwali – Festival of Lights

October 18, 2009

This Diwali, I had two very close shaves when I was on the road.   And both were with crackers.   I just can’t understand wherefrom this custom of bursting crackers originated.   Diwali is supposed to be a festival of lights – and that means lighting of diyas, candles, and lighting up your house.     I was riding on scooter, when a man fired a Seven-Shots like thingy.   I never expected it(i guess even that man did not expect it), but it exploded right at the place where it was kept.   It never went up…and I was literally covered in sparkles.  It was like an umbrella, and I was under it, and that too on a scooter!

My second encounter followed this one a couple of hours later.   A man fired a rocket – it went up about 1 metre, tilted and was moving parallel to my scooter.  I followed its entire trajectory, till it burst right in front of my face!!!   I was really lucky because it wasn’t a good quality rocket, and it didn’t  create  much  effect.

Now, after a day when I think of this experience, I feel it was quite exciting!   Anyways, my  anti-crackers feeling just got stronger…

Day 1 at Coimbatore…

October 16, 2009

Well, I decided to spend my week-long Diwali holidays at Coimbatore, and here I am. During the 3 months at VIT, I have gotten so used to a clean, dust-free environment that as soon as I stepped out of the train, I started sneezing…and sneezing really hard (it hasn’t left me yet!!!). Well, it makes me wonder – is it really good for us to live in such a a clean environment??? I know, this is against mine and all you readers’ beliefs, but our ability to cope with the REAL thing diminishes, and it is impossible to eliminate all the dust and pollution that is already there. Till I lived in Noida, I had no such problems…but now, I can’t even spend one day in a polluted, dusty place!!! Now, don’t go thinking that Coimbatore is a dirty place or anything…its clean, but as compared to my campus, it is somewhat unbearable (so is Delhi, for that matter)! a-c-c-h-o-o!!!

Beginning of college…

Well, its a bit late to start about my beginnings at VIT, but I have to start somewhere…why not begin at the beginning?

Anyways, I joined Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore about 3 months ago. The first few weeks went on as usual, and before we knew it, our first Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT) were upon us. I performed fairly well, and the next week, we had a big event called GraVITas. Me and two other friends (Aditya and Gaurav) participated in a Robotics Triple Event. I guess I shouldn’t go too deep into it, but somehow, three 1st years defeated 90 other teams and emerged as the winners…yes, friends, we came first in our first ever event at VIT. Well, its hard to describe the feeling!!!

Spurred on by this, I went for a Space Quiz called “Corona” organised by SEDS-VIT Student Chapter, and this time again, we(me and Varun) emerged as the winners.

Apart from this, my life at VIT has been really hectic, with assignments, quizzes and even more tests!!!  I am now enjoying a nice Diwali break, and plan to spend most of this time blogging…

Back where I belong…

October 15, 2009

After being out of the blogosphere for about 3 years, I am back where I belong… I won’t write much, this being my inaugural post.   Also, my previous blogs were purely based on Science and this is my first inititative to write about myself, and the world around me.

And by the way, my name is Srikanth, as you might have already guessed.  I am 18 years old and I study at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.   My interests revolve around Astrophysics and Wildlife (completely unrelated subjects!!!).   And as for what I’ll be writing in this blog, well…you’ll soon find that out for yourself!!!  See ya, till then…
